The Washington Capitals are a professional hockey team and a franchise in the National Hockey league.
Core responsibilities included choosing the overall technical direction of WashingtonCaps.com, social media strategy and initiating digital media projects.
Charged with improving upon content-rich website and creating initiatives to attract new fans and re-invigorate existing fan-base. Responsible for forecast and expenditure of the digital media budget. Operated as liaison to sponsorship group, department heads, ownership group and NHL regarding digital media related items. Identified and created monetization opportunities across digital and social media properties.
Other duties included:
- Hiring, supervision and review of the graphic designer and digital media coordinator positions.
- Mentored and interacted with staff members and other departments on best practices in a variety of fields including social media, emerging technology, search engine optimization and marketing (SEO/SEM) and how to implement these channels in a corporate environment.
- Worked with executive level management and ownership on a variety of issues ranging from fans and vendors to league-related issues.
- Oversaw design, formatting and delivery of various e-newsletter and sales blasts as well as tasked to develop advertising content for television, web and print.
- Responsible for deciphering web analytics and presenting to other department heads, executive management and ownership in a meaningful manner.
- Led the effort to be the first professional sports team with a cross-platform theme for the Firefox browser.
- Led the endeavor to create a formalized social media strategy and best practices implementation across social platforms. Helped create company-wide social media guidelines.
